Scotland as a whole is world famous for the quality, diversity and sheer number of Golf Courses.
But it is the Grampian Highlands in the North East, known as Scotland's 'big country', which spoil the golfer for choice. With majestic mountains to the south, the Moray Firth to the north and to the east the North sea, it is a unique corner of Scotland. Blessed with truly outstanding scenery and a glorious range of golf courses, from the traditional wind swept links to fine inland courses. You will find something to suit all handicaps - a real golfing challenge. Golfing here is what the game is truly about, with unique and demanding courses.
Below is a just a small selection of courses, together with their details, that are easily accessible from Dufftown.
Dufftown Golf Club - An 18 hole course situated just 2 miles from the cottages. Every hole has different playing tactics due to the undulation of the Course and has wonderful scenery from every fairway. The 9th tee is one of the highest above sea level in UK being 1294ft above sea level and the clubhouse sits at 795ft.
Aboyne Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 68 course of 5944 yards. Set amidst the rolling hillsides, it is majestic little course, with water hazards
Ballater Golf Course - An18 hole - Par 70 course of 6112 yards. Although relatively flat, it is set amidst magnificent scenery, on the north bank of the river Dee
Braemar Golf Course- An 18 hole - Par 65 course of 4916 yards. Near Balmoral castle on Royal Deeside, a short course, small greens demand good iron play.
Cruden Bay Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 70 course of 6395 yards. This is a classic championship links, on the coast known and respected around the world. An excellent test of golf.
Duff House Royal Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 68 course of 6161 yards. A testing course with many bunkers, trees and two-tier greens.
Elgin Golf Course- An 18 hole - Par 69 course of 6411 yards. A fine and testing course, with mainly tree-lined fairways.
Forres Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 70 of 6141 yards. This is a wooded parkland course, offering a nice golf challenge, a pleasant alternative to the many links courses.
Fraserburgh Golf Course- An 18 hole - Par 70 course of 6278 yards. On the coast on the Northern tip of Aberdeenshire the course offers natural seaside links and enjoyable golf.
Lossiemouth (Old Moray) Golf Course- An 18 hole - Par 72 course. Set on the coast of the moray Firth the course offers demanding links, and hosts many tournaments. It's a good golf challenge ... but duck when the "fighter boys" come into land!
Macduff (Royal Tarlair) Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 72 course of testing cliff top links.
Royal Aberdeen Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 71 course of 6372 yards A superb championship links, with classic 'out and back' layout, with the opening nine holes following the coastline
Stonehaven Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 66 course of 5128 yards. South of Aberdeen this spectacular seaside location, with slopes, braes and cliffs will make your round a little more interesting.
Peterhead Golf Course - An 18 hole - Par 70 course of 6173 yards. The course is located between the sea and the River Ugie, good test of golf.
Grantown on Spey Golf Course- An 18 hole - Par 70 course of 5710 yards. It is an open parkland course, set amidst typical Scottish woodland, offering a testing round of golf for all handicaps
Nairn Golf Course- An 18 hole - Par 72 course of 6705 yards. A beautiful course on the coast. The traditional Scottish hazard of whins and heather prevail on this championship course. A real test of your golfing talents.
